چکیده

Diagnostic imaging is a principal method of analysis in modern medicine. Doctors and other medical professionals gain invaluable information about their patients through medical scans such as X-Rays, computed tomography (CT) cans, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). With this visual information, medical practitioners diagnose and monitor the health of their patients, and medical researchers gain insight into anatomical features of the subjects of the images. It is therefore desirable to improve the process as much as possible, and one way to do this is to automatically segment medical images.

Automatic MRI Bone Segmentation

Automatically segmenting bone tissue in MRI scans requires robustness against poor signal-to-noise ratios, highly inconsistent lighting conditions, and variability within bone tissues. Because of these difficulties, very little literature exists on automatic MRI bone segmentation. Current state-of-the-art methods are either semi-automatic or rely on databases of prior manual segmentations. Here...

Automatic segmentation of high- and low-field knee MRIs using knee image quantification with data from the osteoarthritis initiative.

Clinical studies including thousands of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans offer potential for pathogenesis research in osteoarthritis. However, comprehensive quantification of all bone, cartilage, and meniscus compartments is challenging. We propose a segmentation framework for fully automatic segmentation of knee MRI. The framework combines multiatlas rigid registration with voxel classif...

Highly-Automated 3D Segmentation of Femoral Bone from Hip MRI

Introduction Clinical interest in detecting bone abnormalities of the proximal femur that may lead to osteoarthritis is emerging rapidly, and using MRI to detect these abnormalities requires segmentation of the bone from MR images. Manual segmentation of bone from hip MR data is labor intensive and time consuming. Automated segmentation methods such as texture-based geodesic active contours, mo...

Comparison of state-of-the-art atlas-based bone segmentation approaches from brain MR images for MR-only radiation planning and PET/MR attenuation correction

Introduction: Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging has emerged as a valuable tool in radiation treatment (RT) planning as well as Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging owing to its superior soft-tissue contrast. Due to the fact that there is no direct transformation from voxel intensity in MR images into electron density, itchr('39')s crucial to generate a pseudo-CT (Computed Tomography) image ...

Diagnostic value of CT and MRI of Temporal Bone in Cochlear Implantation Candidates

Background Cochlear implantation is an approved treatment which can be used to treat severe to profound hearing loss. Imaging before cochlear implant surgery is very important in decision making and assessing the temporal bone anatomy for surgery. We aimed to assess the diagnostic value of high resolution CT scan (HRCT), and MRI of temporal bone in candidate pati...

An ITK Filter for Bayesian Segmentation: itkBayesianClassifierImageFilter

An Insight Toolkit (ITK) filter for image segmentation with applications to brain MRI scans is presented in this paper. Previously, we showed how ITK could be used to implement our algorithm. This paper presents our new ITK filter for Bayesian segmentation along with results on brain MRI scans. Our algorithm is a refinement of the work of Teo, Saprio, and Wandall. The basic idea is to incorpora...
